Programme Notes

Sharp Edges is a single movement work in three sections, each beginning with a passage of subtle pulsation and static chords followed by a climactic gesture of rising string scales and various percussion figures. If one imagines the music in tangible terms, as a sculpture, I imagine these climactic moments of increased intensity to reflect the boundaries, or edges, of the static passages they follow; hence the title, Sharp Edges.
